Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Surya Kant has reiterated the urgent need for strengthening judicial infrastructure across the country, stating that judicial infrastructure is “a necessity, not a luxury.”
Addressing the inauguration of a newly developed court complex, the CJI stressed that modern and efficient court infrastructure is essential for ensuring timely access to justice and improving the overall functioning of the judicial system. He observed that courts require adequate physical facilities, technological resources, and administrative support to meet the growing demands of litigation in India.
The Chief Justice noted that the judiciary serves as a vital pillar of democracy and that citizens' constitutional rights can only be effectively protected when courts are equipped with proper infrastructure. He highlighted that inadequate facilities often contribute to delays in case disposal and place additional burdens on judicial officers and litigants.
Justice Surya Kant further emphasized the importance of integrated judicial complexes that bring together courts, legal aid services, digital infrastructure, and support facilities under one roof. According to him, such developments enhance efficiency, accessibility, and the overall quality of justice delivery.
