The Ernakulam Additional District and Sessions Court on October 28, 2026, rejected the regular bail applications of four accused in the fatal Mini Cooper crash case in Nedumbassery, Kerala. The accused include Suhail Sajeev and three co-accused, Ninav, Joyal S Anto and Ameen Shah.
The case arises from a road accident on October 11, 2026, on the Athani-Airport road in Nedumbassery, near Kochi. According to reports, a Mini Cooper allegedly driven by Suhail Sajeev collided with a scooter carrying three people, resulting in the deaths of all three.
The four accused approached the Sessions Court after the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Angamaly rejected their earlier bail applications on October 17, 2026. The Sessions Court subsequently dismissed their pleas. At the time of reporting, the detailed order explaining the Sessions Court's reasoning was awaited.
The prosecution has alleged offences under Sections 281, 105, 49 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Section 105 concerns culpable homicide not amounting to murder, while Section 281 addresses rash driving or riding on a public way. The other provisions relate to the alleged involvement of the co-accused and the circumstances of the incident.
During the proceedings, the prosecution reportedly opposed bail on the ground that the investigation was at a crucial stage. Reports also refer to electronic and forensic evidence being examined as part of the investigation.
The rejection of bail means the accused were not granted release through these applications. It does not amount to a finding of guilt or a conviction. The allegations remain subject to adjudication in accordance with law.
