A Bengaluru court has granted bail to actor and political activist Prakash Raj in a case concerning allegations that he held multiple voter identity cards across different states.

The matter arises from a private complaint filed by advocate K. Dilip Kumar, who alleged that Prakash Raj's name appeared on multiple electoral rolls, potentially violating provisions of election law relating to voter registration. According to the complaint, the actor was allegedly registered as a voter in more than one jurisdiction.

The case gained attention after the court previously issued non-bailable warrants against Raj due to his non-appearance during proceedings. Following his appearance before the court, he moved a bail application.

The 48th Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Bengaluru allowed the bail plea and directed the actor to furnish a cash surety of β‚Ή4,000. The order provides temporary relief while the proceedings in the case continue.

The allegations are linked to electoral records associated with the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, during which Prakash Raj contested as an independent candidate from the Bengaluru Central constituency.

The complainant has alleged that the actor's name appeared on electoral rolls in multiple states, raising questions regarding compliance with election laws governing voter registration. The merits of the allegations have not yet been adjudicated, and the case remains pending before the court.

The bail order does not amount to a determination of guilt or innocence. The court will continue to examine the allegations and evidence presented by the parties during subsequent proceedings.

The development highlights the legal consequences that may arise from alleged irregularities in voter registration records and underscores the importance of maintaining accurate electoral rolls.
