New Delhi, September 15, 2026: In a significant step towards improving public access to judicial information, the Supreme Court of India has announced the launch of a Hindi Public Information Service that will provide simplified Hindi summaries of important judgments and orders of the Court.
The announcement was made on the occasion of Hindi Diwas and reflects the judiciary's continuing efforts to make legal information more understandable and accessible to the public. Under the initiative, selected important judgments and orders of the Supreme Court will be accompanied by concise Hindi summaries explaining the key findings, implications, and outcomes of the decisions.
In addition to written summaries, the Court will also release a daily Hindi audio-video bulletin lasting approximately 15 to 30 minutes. These bulletins will explain important judicial developments and provide citizens with easier access to information regarding landmark rulings and significant court proceedings.
Each summary will include a direct link to the official judgment or order, enabling readers to access the complete judicial document whenever required. The Supreme Court stated that the service would become operational once the necessary administrative and technical arrangements are completed.
The initiative is expected to benefit ordinary citizens, litigants, law students, researchers, and particularly persons with disabilities who may face difficulties reading lengthy legal texts. By presenting judicial information in simpler language and multiple formats, the Court aims to bridge the gap between complex legal reasoning and public understanding.
The Court further emphasized that the programme is intended to strengthen access to justice while promoting Indian languages within judicial communication. While the service will initially be available in Hindi, the Supreme Court plans to expand it to other Indian languages in a phased manner, ensuring wider linguistic inclusion across the country.
The move builds upon previous efforts by the Supreme Court, including translation initiatives through technology-assisted platforms and public-facing judgment summaries. Legal experts believe the latest initiative could significantly improve legal awareness and public engagement with the judicial system.
