The Centre for Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights (CIIPR) at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, in collaboration with Law Mantra Trust, has announced a two-day International Seminar on "Inclusive Labour Law Regime in India: Addressing Women Workers, Child Labour, and Informal Economy." The seminar is scheduled to be held online on 16–17 October 2026.
The event seeks to create a platform for academicians, legal practitioners, policymakers, judges, researchers, students, and civil society representatives to discuss contemporary challenges facing India's labour law framework. The seminar comes at a time when labour law reforms, particularly the implementation of India's Labour Codes, continue to generate debate regarding worker protection, social security, and labour rights.
According to the organisers, the seminar will focus on issues affecting vulnerable sections of the workforce, including women workers, children engaged in labour, and workers operating within the informal economy. Discussions are expected to examine legal protections, workplace dignity, occupational safety, social security measures, and the impact of technological developments on employment relationships.
The seminar's objectives include analysing recent labour law reforms, evaluating the effectiveness of existing legal mechanisms, promoting gender equality in workplaces, and exploring the challenges posed by digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and emerging employment models.
Research papers have been invited on a wide range of themes, including labour governance, labour codes, social security, workplace safety, child labour regulation, women's labour rights, industrial relations, dispute resolution mechanisms, and international labour standards. Selected papers may be published in an edited volume carrying an ISBN.
The organisers have fixed 30 September 2026 as the deadline for abstract submissions. The seminar reflects growing academic engagement with labour law reforms and the need to ensure that India's evolving legal framework remains inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the needs of vulnerable workers.
CIIPR is one of RGNUL's research centres dedicated to promoting legal research and policy discussions. The initiative is expected to contribute to ongoing debates surrounding labour welfare, workers' rights, and social justice in India.
