Delhi Police has launched an investigation into alleged WhatsApp group conversations connected to the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) "Sansad Chalo" march after screenshots circulating on social media appeared to reference the possibility of protest-related casualties.
According to reports, investigators are examining whether the messages played any role in the planning, mobilisation, or escalation of events that led to clashes between protesters and security personnel in central Delhi. Some of the alleged messages reportedly discussed strategies for maintaining communication during a potential internet shutdown, while others allegedly referred to the political impact that a participant's death could have on the movement.
The controversy emerged after screenshots of purported group chats went viral online. Police are currently verifying the authenticity of the messages and identifying the individuals involved. Officials have not yet confirmed whether the chats constitute evidence of criminal intent or conspiracy.
The investigation comes in the aftermath of the CJP's "Sansad Chalo" march, organised to protest examination irregularities and demand accountability from authorities. The march coincided with the Monsoon Session of Parliament and witnessed significant confrontations between protesters and law enforcement agencies.
Authorities stated that permission for the march had not been granted and that prohibitory orders were in force in parts of New Delhi. As protesters attempted to move towards Parliament, clashes reportedly broke out, leading to injuries, detentions, and damage to public property.
Delhi Police has registered multiple FIRs relating to alleged violence, vandalism, and obstruction of public order. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage, mobile phone videos, and digital communications to determine whether the unrest was spontaneous or coordinated in advance.
The alleged chats have added a new legal dimension to the investigation, raising questions about possible offences relating to criminal conspiracy, abetment, incitement, and unlawful assembly under applicable criminal laws. However, no conclusions have been reached, and the authenticity and legal significance of the messages remain under examination.
The matter is expected to remain under scrutiny as police continue collecting evidence and identifying individuals who may have played a role in the planning or execution of the protest activities.
