A Kerala court has ordered the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Malayalam actress Lakshmi Priya, her husband, and a woman police officer following allegations made by actress Ansiba Hassan.
According to the complaint, Ansiba Hassan alleged that she was unlawfully detained at a women's police cell in Kochi and subjected to emotional harassment. She further claimed that she was compelled to apologize under pressure and was subjected to conduct that amounted to criminal wrongdoing.
The court examined the complaint and directed the police to register an FIR and proceed with an investigation into the allegations. The order came after Hassan sought judicial intervention regarding the incidents she described in her complaint.
The dispute is understood to have emerged amid tensions within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), where disagreements among members had previously become public. The court's direction does not amount to a finding of guilt but requires law enforcement authorities to formally investigate the allegations and collect evidence.
The case highlights the judiciary's supervisory role in ensuring that complaints alleging cognizable offences receive appropriate legal consideration. Following the court's direction, the police are expected to conduct an investigation and determine the next course of action in accordance with law.
The matter is likely to attract attention within the Malayalam film industry as well as among legal observers, given the involvement of public figures and allegations concerning the conduct of both private individuals and a police official.
