A Delhi Court has granted interim bail to Sagar Sharma, one of the accused in the 2023 Parliament security breach case, on humanitarian grounds following the death of his father.
Additional Sessions Judge Amit Bansal of the Patiala House Courts allowed the interim bail application after Sharma informed the court that his father passed away on July 14, 2026, after battling cancer. Sharma submitted that he is the only male member in his family and is required to perform the cremation and related religious rituals.
The case stems from the security breach that occurred inside Parliament on December 13, 2023, when individuals allegedly entered the Lok Sabha chamber and released smoke canisters, triggering security concerns and a nationwide debate over parliamentary security protocols.
The accused persons were subsequently arrested and booked under various provisions, including offences relating to criminal conspiracy and unlawful activities. The matter has remained under judicial scrutiny due to its implications for national security and parliamentary functioning.
